DIA appeals to employers to recruit driver trainers during coronavirus crisis

DIA CEO Carly Brookfield urges employers to consider recruiting driver trainers during this time of upheaval and uncertainty due to coronavirus.

As CEO of the DIA, I have written to companies who are currently hiring additional drivers and those with other logistics roles to urge them to consider driver trainers, who may be losing work due to the pandemic.

DIA will advertise any of these roles for free to help our members.

Some of our members may currently be looking for additional work, as delivering in-vehicle driver training becomes difficult due to COVID-19. As a largely self employed industry we would like to help our members at this worrying time in any way we can.

As regular pupils and clients may have to cancel training due to the coronavirus outbreak, instructors’ roles as a whole are becoming very challenging. They do not have the ability to work from home or maintain social distancing in the context of in-car training. As driving tests are now suspended across the UK, some trainers are looking for additional work.

If you need to reliable, competent and safe drivers at this time I can think of none better than our members. As the biggest professional association for driver and rider trainers, we represent a network of approved driver and rider trainers far larger than the national driving schools combined, and most fleet and advanced motoring bodies.

At this difficult time I am happy to advertise any roles you think are suitable for our members across all of our digital membership channels, including Driver Trainer online, the industry’s largest news resource. Please drop me a line with any vacancies (of any nature, some members will be keen to look at any work opportunity for the foreseeable future) and we will post immediately.

As part of being being licensed, approved driving instructors, all members will have recent DBS checks – useful to have in terms of home deliveries, passenger transport roles etc.

Additionally, we offer flexible and adaptive occupational driver training, testing and screening services across the UK – across the vehicle and licence categories. We can deploy qualified examiners and trainers across the UK at short notice and deliver a range of training and driver assessment programmes in a range of different modes – classroom, online and in-vehicle.

Our advanced driver training arm, Diamond Advanced Motorists, offers some of the most robust advanced driving tests in the world (working with large fleets globally) and we are accredited by the Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency.

Our members are covered by our industry beating public liability and professional indemnity insurance, with £25 million of cover included in DIA membership as standard.

We also provide digital driver screening and theory tests for occupational drivers, and we can make these bespoke to individual companies, as well as provide wider digital driver education resources. Take a look at some recent work we did for Highways England.

Great idea to ask companies to think of all Driver Trainers in these uncertain times and because of students having to self isolate and also Theory and Driving Tests postponed for at least 8 – 12 weeks.

  2. Carly , myself and Chris Bensted have an FB Page and App ‘i/we need drivers’ particularly aimed at giving ideas and links for those in our industry who need work.
There are vacancies at The Nightingale Hospitals if you are brave enough for those who have any blue light experience.
